LHF#67: Real, Strong Strength

We drove through Boston a few years back and saw signs bearing the words "Boston Strong" hanging from all the overpasses. Earlier this week we noticed "New York Tough" signs along the roads throughout New York City. Both expressions of collective resolve and community togetherness in the face of great adversity.

What a wonderful thing to band together and face hardship head on. So much good can be accomplished from such synergy, and so much love can be put into action. Certainly valuable efforts to cope, to meet needs, to conquer discouragement, to process pain.

And yet, is it real? Is such strength solid? Is it going to pull us through? Is it going to last? Is it really strong?! You see, all human strength, as good and channeled as it may be, will fall short. Because while human strength may be able to accomplish much, it is subject to human limitations.

God's strength, on the other hand, is real. It is sufficient and lasting. His strength is different because the Source is different.
Our God is endlessly powerful.
He is supremely loving.
He is ever-present.
He is faithful to all His promises.
He always knows best.
He always does good.
He always chooses right.

This is His character, and it's all bundled in the strength He gives His people...

The LORD will give
strength to His people;
The LORD will bless
His people with peace.
Psalm 29:11

This is a promise you can count on!
This is real strength that leads to real peace of mind.

So work together.
Do good.
Be responsible.
But don't be satisfied with lesser strength.
Don't let human efforts of any kind be your deepest confidence and hope.
Lean on and into the strength that God provides to sustain you through every trial and storm. His is the only truly strong and real strength.
