LHF#15: God Uses the Least

In Joshua 2 the story of Rahab is told. What a unique account of God's working hand in an unlikely situation. It always amazes me that God used Rahab, the lowest of the low, a prostitute, as a part of His redemption plan. In an unlikely circumstance, an unlikely person is used to fulfill an unlikely purpose. God uses everyone to fulfill His purpose. Even now in a scary, unknown and unusual time God is at work.

The following verse illustrates the reaction that Rahab had after she saw what God had done to protect the Israelites. She knew that the God of Israel was a God worthy to be served, worshiped, and honored.

And as soon as we heard it,
our hearts melted,
and there was no spirit left
in any man because of you,
for the Lord your God,
he is God in the heavens above
and on the earth beneath.
Joshua 2:11

My prayer is that in this time of need and confusion, the unbelieving will see a dependence, reliance, and trust in God through us. That their hearts would be melted and they would know and believe that the Lord our God is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath.

Many times I have wondered if I was good enough to even be a part of this work of God. I realized that God used Rahab to fulfill His purpose. Why wouldn't He use us? Let's pray for opportunities to show others that we trust and believe in a righteous God. And let's believe and trust that He will use us for His glory, no matter what.

Yes and we can remember that He works all things together for good for those who are called according to HIs purpose. That can be one way good can come from this.

Well written, Hannah. You are articulate in your writing and your passion for the Word is evident. Thank you for sharing. During this time God will use us, even us, as you said. Often times people see the “calm” in the believer’s eyes that will draw them to ask where our Hope lies. What great opportunity this gives us to share that our “calm” in this storm is Jesus!
