LHF#57: Alone & Praying

And rising very early
in the morning,
while it was still dark,
he departed
and went out
to a desolate place,
and there he prayed.
Mark 1:35

It never ceases to amaze me that the Lord Jesus, when living in Israel as a man, set aside time to pray in solitude. I believe it shows us the importance He places on prayer. To seek God through prayer communicates dependence upon Him, and a desire to live in close fellowship.

On this occasion, as His ministry was gaining momentum and His fame was spreading, Jesus rose early, while it was still quiet. Before the day had begun He went to a solitary place. The disciples and the crowds would soon be seeking Him. The demands of the day would soon be upon Him. Before He saw anyone, did anything, or went anywhere He chose to pray.

This was an essential part of Jesus' preparation. What was He going to encounter that day? Would He be tempted in some way? Did he want to recommit Himself to do the Father's will? Did he want to linger in the Father's presence? Whatever the reasons, the incident is recorded for our benefit.

Jesus gives us an example.
He shows us how to prioritize.
He encourages us to commune with the Father.
Alone.
In busy and full times.
Early?!

How is God encouraging you to to seek Him through prayer?
What are some of the practical ways you have been helped in maintaining regular times of prayer?
