LHF#52: Know the Hope

To hope for something is to expect a good gift.
It's a beautiful idea. Thing is, it usually involves a degree of uncertainty.
If you are hoping, you are most often still waiting to see if it will actually work out.

That is precisely what makes biblical hope so different. As part of our salvation, we have been assured good things that are not part of our current Christian experience. There are blessings that are coming. But as believers, we hope with certainty.

You know that even if you have a good reason to believe what you are hoping for might really happen, you may not want to dwell on it mentally. That would be getting your hopes up, and then if it doesn't happen... Well, we don't really like to go there.

Yet God calls us to trust Him in walking a different path. Even though we don't now have all the future blessings of our salvation, God wants us to jump in and grasp the depth of these future riches. He intends for us to explore the eternal happiness Christ has purchased for us. This is our great privilege, leading to knowing God and having spiritual wisdom (Ephesians 1:17). It happens as we allow God to enlighten us and give us understanding.

having the
eyes of your hearts
enlightened,
that you may know
what is the hope
to which
he has called you...
Ephesians 1:18

According to the fourth verse of Amazing Grace"The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures". Indeed! The Word of God helps us to know and understand the hope we have in Christ. Much is found in this first chapter of Ephesians, though there are many places in the Bible to learn about our hope

So let's explore together. For the sake of mutual encouragement in holding fast, let's seek to know our hope.
➺ What future grace are you assured of in Christ?
How does this hope bring you peace and joy?
