LHF#46: Holy Saturday

It is Holy Saturday. Yesterday we commemorated Jesus' death, tomorrow we will celebrate His Resurrection.

It is a day that can quickly be forgotten in the usual hustle and bustle of preparation for Easter. During Holy Week, our focus is shifted to the last week of Jesus' earthly ministry, and rightfully so. But what about those agonizing hours between Jesus' final breath on the cross and His Resurrection?

I can imagine that the disciples were confused, frightened, and sad. They had seen Jesus die a gruesome death. They had witnessed Joseph of Arimathea bringing His body to the tomb as the first rays of dawn peeked through the clouds. Piled on top of these emotions were feelings of regret as they remembered how they had left their Lord, their rabbi, in the garden of Gethsemane.

The disciples did not know what was going to happen on Sunday. They did not know what we know now: He has risen! The disciples felt as if they had no hope. But even then, unbeknownst to them, God was working.

I think that this day serves to remind us that we do not see the big picture.
Even when we don't feel like there is a change possible, God is working.
Even when we don't feel like there is any potential for hope, He is our Hope.
