It is Good Friday.
We commemorate the death of the Lord Jesus.
It was a day of shame and suffering.
We call it "good" only because of the spiritual realities of that day.
Let's dwell a bit on that Calvary road.
...upon him was
the chastisement
that brought us peace.
Isaiah 53:5
Have you ever been punished for something you didn't do?
I think we can all relate to feelings of injustice bubbling up,
often turning to anger when we are wrongly accused.
Not Jesus.
He was oppressed,
and he was afflicted,
yet he opened not his mouth.
Isaiah 53:7
This is the Son of God, bearing the all the guilt and all the sin of us all.
As the Son of Man, bruised and beaten beyond recognition.
As the Son of God, drinking the cup of God's wrath.
He endured the crushing weight and the devastating grief.
it was the will
of the Lord
to crush him;
he has put him
to grief,
Isaiah 53:10
It was God the Fathers plan, agreed upon long before we drew our first breath.
It required a break in the perfect relationship they shared.
The Father could not spare the only possible Lamb.
It was unfathomable love.
The Father could not accept the sin-drenched Son.
It was sheer agony.
Out of the
anguish of his soul
he shall see
and be satisfied...
Isaiah 53:11
But Jesus knew what was coming.
He would see so much good come from His sorrow.
The reward lie ahead.
Glory was coming!
"Christ was all anguish that I might be all joy."
