LHF#38: Joyful Hearts :)

A joyful heart is good medicine...
Proverbs 17:22

How good it is to be glad!
Especially important to have such moments during the weightiness of this global pandemic. Just want to give you a few ideas for the long days at home. Hoping a little joyful, purposeful involvement with one another will provide good heart healing, as the Scripture says. ;)

So here's some ways we have found to maintain a degree of (in)sanity...

We eat 3 meals a day, ... surprise, surprise!
On Monday through Friday we eat 3 times a day at the table.
We maintain fairly regular times for our meals.
We pray and thank the Lord. (Finding it all the more important now to be thankful!)

At breakfast we just try to get through the meal, as we have a major sleepyhead among us, ... not mentioning any names...!!! :)

Before lunch our prayers now include issues pertaining to the coronavirus crisis. We are using this prayer list from LifeWay. (You can find this at LifeWay or in the "Free Pintables" section of this blog.)

Suppertime is for a bit more discussion during the meal. We keep it simple, using small "assignments" for each day to get us started. Sometimes these prompts spark a conversation and sometimes not. But it seems to help get us out of our own mental worlds while we eat together.

When we are finished eating we read the Bible. Right now we're going through Proverbs. We take a small portion each day, maybe 6-10 verses. That usually works out to a couple verses for each person to read. Then we have a short time of reflection and sharing.

After supper 2 of us wash and dry the dishes while 1 person cleans the table. On good days the table cleaner also sweeps the floor! Then it's time for a bit of physical activity.

We do 1 game a day. It lasts anywhere from 10-30 minutes, depending on how long it takes/how long we're having fun. We're using mainly regular household items. Like the other day we played pingpong on the table with a pingpong ball and paper plates. (Granted, they were Chinet paper plates, leftovers from a recent wedding! ;) )
Here is what we are doing lately:

For us, it helps to have a schedule. More seems to be achievable that way. I can imagine we'll keep this for 2 weeks and then switch it up a bit. We are also thinking of ideas that fit the age of the one "child" we still have at home. This seems to work for where we are now.

So these are a few ways we are trying to make the best of our quarantine days.
Just want to encourage you to find something that works for you,
for your family,
in the season you are in right now.
Keep it simple, doable,
... but do try and do something!
It may help break the monotony,
help ease the cabin-fever-gone-ballistic,
and bring you and yours some gladness of heart.
