LHF#13: Battling Anxiety

The sermon we listened to this morning was on Philippians 4:5-6 which reads:

Let your reasonableness
be known to everyone.
The Lord is at hand;
do not be anxious about anything,
but in everything
by prayer and supplication
with thanksgiving
let your requests
be made known to God.

As I have been thinking about what we heard during our little church time and what is happening in the outside world today it occurred to me that we are in a battle. Anxiety is growing at the same rate that this virus is spreading. We, as Christians, know that God doesn't want us to be fearful. But we are facing some pretty scary times. There is much to be anxious about.

This verse gives us the battle plan:
> maintain a gentle, forbearing, moderate spirit
> approach God through prayer & pleading
> cultivate a thankful heart

This plan comes with 2 rock-solid promises:
> God is present; He is with us!
> God will give us His mind-blowing, protective peace! (v.7)

Think with me further:
What spiritual and practical benefits would there be to following God's battle plan for peace? How could such obedience affect us and the people around us?

When God is present, we have nothing to fear. When we give God our worries, He gives us peace in return. We do have many things to be thankful for, even in this time of uncertainty. Count your blessings. God will take care of each of us. Judy Todd
